Take the above as a metaphor to what the Mets are. They are just a car that completely dies out at the end of the race. What is the problem? The Bullpen.
The starters for the Mets had good seasons. It's that the Bullpen blew about 30 games for the Mets.
So if CC can pitch 35 games and 15 of those were to be Complete games then that problem would be fixed by doing that. But no, what the Mets need is a 7th inning guy, and 8th inning guy and a Closer that can hold a lead.
And you do the math. We blew 29 saves/games last year. We won 89 games. The 1986 bullpen blew 8 games. If our bullpen had done that... well, 100 wins plus ain't all that unreasonable. Just give us 4 games back last year, we win the Division and head to the Series. And still with 25 blown saves!!!! And, oh yeah, it would be nice to have Luis "Minaya's Folly" Castillo banished to Kansas City as well ...
Last thought: the Mets have not been the same since July 30th, 2006, the night of the Duaner Sanchez accident.
There main interest is improving there bullpen so they are trying to sign K-Rod which is dumb in my new because problem wasn't 9th inning, it was getting to the 9th inning
they should sign Fuentes and trade for Street make Street your setup man and Fuentes the closer You will get both of them for less then K-Rod
and they need more then one Relief pitcher they need to get rid of everyone in that sad excuse for a bullpen
the are interested in Juan Cruz who was a great setup man for Arizona
I also read article that they are looking to sign the best Cricket pitchers Indiana and see how he will deal with the change
SO if they get Street,Cruz and Fuentes the bullpen will be as scary as the Phillies and it will be a rundown in the East between the Mets and Phillies and i think both will make the playoffs next year if the Mets GM makes the right moves
P.S They should have never let Ollie go.
