Does your Christmas tree have a "theme" or is it a hodgepodge of ornaments?

Tuesday Mar 16, 2010
  • Mine is just a hodgepodge of old ornaments from the time we were married til now. Each year we buy a couple of new ornaments, because it never fails that somebody's ornament will break sometime throughout the year. We also have 3 kids that have each started to either make or collect their own ornaments for when they move out and take theirs with them.
I also hangs ribbons on 4 sides of the tree from the angel. Then put bows on the ribbon. This kind of makes it all come together.

  • Theme, isn't Christmas a theme? I have all white light and a a golden star on top. I have over 5 hundred hand painted ceramic ornaments on my tree with gold tinsel but other then that , No theme

  • we usually do it colour co-ordinated but it always looks the same because the tree is always green.

  • how funny I have never heard of a Christmas tree theme....and I am a Jew!

  • It's a hodgepodge. I have kids, and it's just more fun for all of us that way. I think ones with a theme are pretty, but just not for me.
My mom did one when I was a kid with blue lights, and all blue and silver bulbs, with those little, thin, silver icicles. Nothing too fancy but it was nice.

  • theme plus mine is pre-lighted themes are better looking lol

  • 20 years of collecting assorted ornaments. at least 50% are ornaments that my wife bought while traveling to various vacation spots. The tree is so busy that it takes 5 minutes per ornament for the last few because we cant easily find an open branch.

  • We have a real tree and cover it in higgeldy piggeldy decorations and lots of lights! No tinsel though lol. Yours?

  • our family is a a hodgepodge of ornaments. I think i wouldn't want it any other way. So many good memories that you get to remember every year when you hang them on the tree that take us back to when we were little. Its fun to pull them out again. With a theme tree it just seems so generic and theres no fun or history behind it

  • my tree upstairs is a bit of everything...including ornaments my mom made, and ones I made as a kid and now ornaments my kids have made...each year I do buy a couple new ones, this year I got was a hippo wearing a ballerina suit, very suiting since my fave song is " I want a hippopotamus for christmas"

  • Silver.

  • our office x-mas tree is usually red and gold...my house tree is usually just gold..so yeah we always have themes.

  • I have a theme because I am paranoid about having anything look cluttered. Its a real green tree, white lights, gold ribbon, angel on top, then red and gold ornaments. Then I wrap all the gifts in gold paper with red ribbon bows and put them under the tree.

  • I'd love to just have a hodgepodge of ornaments because there is so many that I love! But my mom is OCD about decorations so it's almost themed. We have Santa, snowman, Gold, Silver, Rainbow, Homemade, Sweet Treats, Seashells, Sports, and colors. [themes]

  • I don't know if mine has a "theme" I just stuck with the colored lights and similar colored ornaments. My folks have a hodgepodge tree and it kills me - it just looks so messy. and my sister has a blue/silver theme but it looks sterile to me. So mine looks classy and christmasy.

  • Both...every year it is different for me...sometimes I do a color theme with certain topic ornaments (ie;;snowmen, sleds, penguins, gingerbread men, candy canes, victorian, tropical, hunting / fishing or lodge look, dogs, eagles, celestial,
    american west, patriotic USA, etc...)
I have collected Hallmark ornaments since 1966 as well ( I was 10 yrs old when I started) and they vary by topic but have the year on them.

This year it is going to be gold & royal blue lights with Celestial (moon, stars, sun) ornaments.=)

  • We use a color them of blue and silver. After we get the blue and silver up, we start adding our special ornaments. Every year, each of us pick out one special ornament that prepresents us somehow from the year. Like, for instance, last year my son picked out one of a kid on a skateboard, cause that was his new favorite thing to do that year. So it's really a hodgepodge color theme.
