  • can anyone plz help me on this question: how can information from a dietitian contribute to assessment of children's learning needs

  • I think that good nutrition is a very important part of learning...Children need to go to school without being hungry...so they can concentrate and learn without thinking about eating I also think that they need good nutrition...My children never get sweets in the morning...I feel it makes them a bit too active...I feed mine lots of protein and some carbs..

  • I'm not sure if I understand your question. A child needs to be healthy, alert and able to focus on his/her schoolwork.

If a child is not healthy or not alert or unable to focus I think you have to look at every angle to find out where the problem lies.

Obviously a child who is hungry can not focus on his studies, a child who is malnourished or who is very overweight may not have the stamina to stay alert all day. Some people find sugar contributes to hyperactivity, (ask any teacher the day after Hallowe'en).

A dietitian may not be the first person I'd call but he could certainly be part of the team.

  • Vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in food promote health throughout the body, including the brain. If children do not get enough of certain nutrients, their brain function- and therefore learning ability- may suffer.
