Pneumonia? is it contagious?

  • my mom just got diagnosed with it 2day and is in the hospital. now im wondering if it is contagious. plus she also had surgery to repair her mcl which she torn 2 wks ago which i think lead to her getting it

    p.s. pneumonia also took my grandpaps life away five years ago


  • Yes it is possible, however not likely if you take the general precautions when around someone infected ie) not being too close, proper hand washingg...etc. You should also stay active and eat healthy to further recover should you contract the virus. There are different levels of pneumonia, some more serious than others.You'll also have a better chance of recovering if you are young and healthy.   • pneumonia can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi so it would depend on what type your mom has.if she developed it after surgery she most likely has bacterial pneumonia which is not contagious.hope this helps and hope your mom is well soon
