What is the difference in a hamster and guinea pig?

Thursday Mar 11, 2010
  • i know they are different sizes but what else is different

  • 1. Hamsters are much smaller and fight with any other hamster.
2.Hamsters don't have less fur than guinea pigs
3.Guinea pigs need a bigger cage.
    4. Hamsters have smaller eyes and paws.
    Hope this helps!

  • guinea pigs need bigger cages and are so so so loud

  • Although it depends on how shy your guinea pig is, I think that guinea pigs are much easier to play with and, in my opinion, make better pets. They are very similar to hamsters, but they understand better. Some people have even taught their guinea pigs tricks. They are more warm and loving. They are much more fun to care for. They don't run away once you set them down on the grass, they will sit and eat and make it easier to play with them. I also think they live longer with proper care. I love my guinea pig!

  • guinea pigs make a lot more noise for one thing!

  • well the differences are
    GP make more noise
hamster and GP come in different colors
GP need bigger cages than hamsters do
    eat different food

  • Guinea pigs don't create their own vitamin C so they have to have fortified guinea pig food with it to help. Hamsters don't need the extra help with this. Some hamsters are more aggressive and are more likely to bite. With hamsters you can get the cages with the tubes and stuff and you can get them ball to roll around in. Guinea pigs you can't really do that with because they are more likely to get stressed out with all that stuff. Guineas are usually more of just a petting pet.

  • this is a list of things i know

    -eat different thing

    -look different

    -different breeds

    -different colours

-guinea pigs need a bigger cage

    -need different needs

it's unique to be different.thats what they are .DIFFERENT

  • Hamsters are smaller and they are a little less shy. Thought guinea pigs and hamsters don't like to be handled all that much, guinea pigs are especially shy and jumpy.
The hamsters that you can commonly buy in pet stores are usually Syrians (Golden hamsters) and they cannot be kept together as they will fight. Guinea pigs are more social in the way that you can keep a couple of guinea pigs together without incident.

    hope that helps ^_^
