Good game today. There were some outstanding performances; Nolan, Davies and especially Nakata. The main thing however is that there were no bad performances, even the every liable Pedersen managed to look a fairly competent left back.
3rd place with 7 games gone. Staring down at United, Arsenal and the 'Victims'. All's good in the world...
Next Week it's the most local of local derbies for us.... WIGGIN!! :D
I've waited so long for this game :D
Strange, but Borgetti is being wasted, I hope they send him back to Mexico. In the 60 some odd minutes he has played he scored a goal. Big Sam is letting him go to waste.
How would Borgetti solve the finishing problem given that he'd be asked to fill Davies' role (a role he can't presently do as good as Davies) and given that Davies had no real chances against Pompey?
If Davies was getting boat loads of chances and failing to finish them then I'd agree but he's not. Chances are falling to everyone and not just one player in particular so replacing a superior ball winner with a better finisher would be detrimental to the team. It's funny but I've been having the same debate on the Portugese forum about Vaz Te.
Nakata and Borgetti understand each other from what I've seen and read.
errr... they've played together for a grand total of 30 minutes.
We've never been a team to hammer the opposition and apart from looking a bit shaky defensively we more than coped with Portsmouth. Aside from Nolan's goal the only other chance we really had to finish the game was when Nolan sent the ball wide in the second half. There were half chances throughout the team but scoring is always going to be difficult in a 4-5-1, especially when we don't really have that much pace in the midfield. We can contain the opposition through superior numbers in the midfield, although it's alarming the way the defence is allowing two good opportunites per game.
You also correctly point to the fact that there were first team members rested for this game. 1-0 will do me, it's better than last season's result.

EDIT: As an additional unrelated note there was an incredible asian turnout and a couple of mexican shirts here and there at the game today, good to see we've picked up a few followers with the new signings just hope we can deliever for them and create a few more life time fans
