Demo vBulletin

Monday Mar 15, 2010
  • I am testing the demo vBulletin before I make a decision about purchasing vBulletin.

I am testing the group promotions but it does not seem to work.

I have created a usergroup test, a user abc are a member of this group. I have also created a usergroup test2.

Then I have created a group promotion that should promote from test to test2 after 10 posts.

But after the user abc have exceeded 10 posts nothing happens (also 2 hours later).

I this feature disabled on the demo board or am I missing something here.

  • The promotion system works.
If the scheduled tasks are disabled in the admin demo you wount see promotions happen because they are disabled ;)

But rest asured they work propaly ;)

  • The scheduled task part of the admin cp is disabled. But the help file says 1 hour. So I did browse around to make sure there are activity from time to time, I checked after 1 and 2 hours.

And now the demo account I created has expired because the site has been down for almost 24 hours :-( So I have to start all over to test this.

  • What I meant was that modifying scheduled tasks were not allowed with the demo user. If You looked in the log file I saw that some tasks had been executed.

I am sure it works, I just wanted to test it. But anyway I just put in an order so I am awaiting the license to be sent to me.

  • Thanks.

I am looking forward to convert my existing phpBB based forum to vb. I am really impressed with the amount of options that can be customized compared to phpBB.

  • I never looked at the admin demo (i have real boards to play with), so i am not sure on what schedule the promotion is set.

You can see on what interval promotions are handled by going to:
    AsdminCP->Scheduled Tasks

Please keep in mind that there must be activity (page loads) in the normal board for teh scheduled tasks to be executed.

  • The really great thing is how much you can customize vB without making upgrading a nightmare. If you make 2 hours of changes to your phpBB forum, it takes 2 hours to apply those changes every time a new version of phpBB comes out. vB takes much less work.

  • Best of luck and welcome to Vbulletin
