Why isn't there any good music anymore?

I'm currently watching the 2008 VMAs and I wanna shot myself because I realized there is no creativity or talent left in the music bussiness. I completely fell out of love with hip-hop. I hate 95% of all the hip-hop artist who have came out since 2000. I hate lil wayne, t-pain, 50 cent, dipset, G-unit, rick ross, etc. I only respect and love artist like Lupe Fiasc, Kanye West(a lil arrogant,but his music is good), Talib Kwelil, Dead Pres, M.I.A(don't let the accent fool you she's a rapper), Common, Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Big Pun...As for other types of music, I hate artist like Beyonce(she can sing, but she has no longevity. She copies a lot of things from other artists), Rhianna, Danity Kane, Miley Cyrus, PussyCat Dolls, because they are just there for looks...They aren't orginal. The only female singer really holding it down it Mary J Blige.I'm starting to love rock music more. I have always been a fan of Linkin Park, Nirvana, Slipknot, Trapt, Daft Punk, Robbie Rivera, Shania Twain, Madonna, Christina Aguliera,Lily Allen,Santogold...Can anyone recommond some good music for me?

I know. It's EXTREMELY SAD. I miss the good music. Even four or five years ago, the music was better than this crap!! Hip Hop is hopefully being recycled. It will be new and fresh some other time. I miss the old music. I miss the 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's. I miss the emotional aspects of music :(

I feel you. I have written about that subject before. My MP3 player is mostly filled with 60s songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and 90s alternative/grunge rock like Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Bush, Soundgarden. I also like Rage Against The Machine and Metallica. I don't listen to the new ones. I don't know how it came to this but it's sad, just sad.

because record companies only want to sell product, and good music is a thing of the past. You can make records at home now.

There is plenty of great music out there, but you'll have to look beyond "top-40" radio (or whatever they're calling that junk these days) and MTV to find it.

Check out music in the international section (so-called "world" music) because a lot of very creative fun music is being recorded outside the borders of the US; check out Europe (west and east), Russia, India, Asia, Africa, the UK, the Middle East, and so on.

Don't let yourself be limited by what the US radio market has to offer, think ~ and look ~ outside the box!

ROFL I hate all the rappers and pop chicks you hate LOL I love Bands like Coheed & Cambria, Atreyu, Rilo Kiley [girl kicks ***] Garbage [lead vocals a girl] listen to Latin music. I love Calle 13, Julieta Venegas, Cabas, Alejandro Sanz. Ohh and portuguese! I like Ivete Sangalo and Kelly Key [pretty popular] I hate american pop music now so I listen to portuguese pop and stuff. Ohh Selena, fefe dobson and Alanis Morrisette kicks as$. Flogging Molly, Red hot chili peps. and white stripes.

Well there's pop groups and singers like Culture Club, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, George Michael, James Ingram, Richard Marx and Stevie Wonder. These days it's the old music that's the best music.

There is good music out there. Most of the good music out there doesn't make the top 100 Billboard.

I have a small to medium size collection of artists i cherish.

I agree with alot of what u said.. that electronic voice over in all that hip hop music really is anoying.. like with Cris Brown and others...

Because young people suck!

It all depends in what kind of music you like... you have to do your own research... and come in terms with yourself whether you like the music or not.

I think a lot of it has to do with what is profitable and marketable. Music is sold like a product, and often products (whether it's food, whatever) are offered not because they are of a high quality but because of the cash.

It's a pity, most of what I listen to is old stuff, the Rolling Stones, Beatles, etc..

Whether a person liked the Beatles or disliked them they were always creative, always brought something to the table with their lyrics. The same can't be said for today's music, a lot of it just doesn't involve creativity or inspiration.

Because people have started to use music as advertising since they know how effective it can be and are too busy pumping messages into the songs to even give a care about quality. Notice that in the videos, the cool people (the ones they want you to admire) look a certain way and the people that are outcasts look a different way. In the songs, the person/thing/idea is a certain way. So in a sense, they are targeting non-conformists teens and ironically, coerce them to conform to a certain kind of culture thus in a sense making it mainstream.

I recommend 30 Seconds to Mars (my favorite), Breaking Benjamin, Saosin, My Chemical Romance, and if you are into hardcore rock or like to experiment, maybe Disturbed. They put a lot of energy into their songs and you can tell it. Try out http://pandora.com . One of my teachers recommended it to me and I love it. It is an online radio station that lets you listen to your own customized radio stations.

There's no good music anymore because capitalist companies who want only for profit CONTROL what people want, then GIVE them that very thing. Independent artists still produce great music, but the big companies want to minimize risk and maximize profit. If you seek music that's not "95% of all the hip-hop artists" seek out a music conservatory or a music academy in a big city, they often have the newest movements and the most fired up and creative musicians eager to explore and improve. They produce the real music.

It's mainstream.. what you can say. To be honest (well this is my opinion) even rock artists lack originality in their music. There's no innovation and to me it's always banter or some sort of pessimistic expression of affection. The only good, respectable artists alive are Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap, etc etc. Regina can actually sing and composes music. Her proficiency in piano is also undoubted. Not to mention her poignant and aesthetic songs. Imogen Heap produces just as much genius most of the time. However you can't expect perfection from just about anyone.

Btw Fidelity by regina spektor is the worst example of her genius. Listen to baobabs, blue lips, loveology, Ode to Divorce, Somedays, Braille, Folding Chair, Time is All Around...countless others waiting for you in youtube (most of her songs are not released in albums...sadly)

WTH why havent I married you yet lol.
I feel you, everything's about making money just going with the flow of things this sold a lot so lets find a different face and just use the same stuff and call it new.
