  • I'm trying to find out about a book titled "The Kitchen and the Cotton Patch" by Patsie McRee. There is no date or publisher in it.

  • Hi ladybirdtoo-ga, Thanks for your question. I was able to turn up some information on Patsie McRee's book, "The Kitchen and the Cotton Patch." According to WorldCat, it was published in 1948 by Cullom & Ghertner Co. This record showed a page length of 102. There was a second record for the same year, published by L.A. Lee, which shows it having 94 pages. Both versions been out of print for some time. I was able to find a number of the books are available for purchase (the Cullom & Ghertner Co. edition). Advanced Book Exchange http://www.abebooks.com By doing a search with "Kitchen and the Cotton Patch" (you need to omit the "The" as the first word in the title) for the title, I turned up 10 books for sale ranging in price from $38.00-$175.00. bookfinder http://www.bookfinder.com Same search as above 12 books available in the same price range. This site also turned up a promotional booklet, 3 items for sale ranging from $49.95-$50.00 alibris http://www.alibris.com This has three copies of the promotional booklet, (title search for "Kitchen and the Cotton Patch)" including one signed by the author. Prices range from $49.95 - $89.95 Amazon (Bibliofind) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/513040/bibliofind/ (title search for: kitchen and the cotton patch) This has six copies (the promotional booklet and the other edition) ranging from $40.00-$175.00. Some of these were on Advanced Books Exchange and the others. Just to be sure, I checked eBay and Barnes and Noble. None of them have it available at the moment. Powells's Books (http://www.powells.com) has two additions, but they were already included in the abebooks.com search. There are, of course, lots of other used and rare book dealers both online and not. This site lists a number of places that you could also search: AcqWeb Rare Book Dealers http://acqweb.library.vanderbilt.edu/acqweb/pubr/rare.html There are a handful of libraries with the book available. If you weren't interested in purchasing it, your best option would be to go to a library that you had an affiliation with (e.g. your public library or a college library) and request the book by interlibrary loan. There may or may not be a small fee involved. Searches on Google did not turn anything up on either the book or the author. I also searched "Contemporary Authors," several periodical databases, and a couple of biography databases. It is possible, however, that there just is not much material on McRee, particularly if this was her only work. Search strategy: WorldCat to find the book abebooks.com, Bookfinder, and the other book sites, I've searched before with success for out-of-print materials. Google search: "mcree" "patsie mcree" "patsy mcree" (alibris has her name listed as such) "kitchen and the cotton patch" I hope that helps! Regards, luciaphile-ga

  • In my haste, I forgot to include the following: It's described as including "black dialect poems, songs, over 60 pages for southern dishes" http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookDetails?bi=140624492 Another description of the book indicates that the book contains, "Poems portraying the pathos and humor of the "Old Southern Negroes" as the author knew them." http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookDetails?bi=143054578 All copies appear to be illustrated. Regards, luciaphile-ga
